Trenchcoat with a story
AMSTERDAM – Eco friendly clothes are a tough one. They’re either extremely expensive or affordable but with helpless looking seals or “I love hemp” scrawled over them. Shame. Luckily you can buy clothes with a clear conscience if you love second hand or vintage. Vintage sounds less ordinary. She who keeps stuff long enough has gold in her hands, because

Yes, I just moved in. I fell in love with a Dutchman.
Oops..
I’m fine, I feel at home here!
What did you buy today?
Nothing yet, but I’m going to buy peanut butter.
Does your Dutch boyfriend also like peanut butter?
Yes, maybe that’s why we’re a good match.
Smooth or crunchy?
Smooth, like my boyfriend!
What’s in those plastic bags?
Old newspapers that I throw away seperately for recycling.
Bravo!
Thanks
What do you prefer: true love or kinky sex?
How about real kinky lovemaking!
It’s haute couture and eco, darling!

Living like Ewoks?
LONDON - Recession. Recession. RECESSION. Re-cession. How’s my hairline? In a state of recession. Turn on the radio – recession. Go online – recession.
So, yeah – in case you’ve been sealed in concrete for the past 6 months – we are, errrr… recessing. Ignoring the irony of complaining about blanket coverage by writing a post about it, let’s ask: what effect will this slump have on environmental choices?
Name: Bas Kosters
Age: 31
Profession: fashion designer
From: Amsterdam
What did you just buy?
I bought some stuff for my new collection for the Fashion Week in Amsterdam. It’s in collaboration with Heineken. They invest a lot in fashion. I bought pumps with a panther print.
Do you like Heineken beer?
Of course I love it! Haha!
Do you think about the environment when you design?
Yes, I do more and more. I recycle a lot and sometimes I use organic cotton. I made something out of old Heineken parasols for instance. But it’s very hard to always be green, I don’t want to compromise the quality of my work of course. I do think you should only work with companies who have good work ethics in terms of environment and labour standards!
Is Heineken a good company?
Haha! I believe they are making an effort to be more and more environmentally friendly.
What about your food, do you care if it’s organic?
Yes. I think organic is healthier and tastier!
Who do you like best, Philip Freriks (Dutch newsreader) or Brad Pitt?
Brad Pitt is a slimeball so I’ll go for our own Dutch hope: Philip Freriks!
Bas Koster recycles for Amsterdam Fashion Week
AMSTERDAM – It’s just days till the opening of Amsterdam International Fashion Week and one opening highlight is going to be Bas Kosters’ “Heineken Beat Collection”. The show will feature clothes made using Heineken products and merchandise – true recycling in the name of fashion! We caught up with Bas in Amsterdam to find out exactly how environmentally aware he is. Here’s our interview with him in this week’s “EXCUSE ME?”.
Eat Love
AMSTERDAM - Marije Vogelzang is our favourite foodie in Holland and her first book “EAT LOVE” is out soon. Marije changes the way people experience and see food. She’s interested in the stories behind ingredients, the texture, sound, smell and colour of food. Food from Marije rarely comes on an ordinary plate…
Happy birthday plastic!
AMSTERDAM – Love it or loathe it: “polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride” (a.k.a ‘plastic’) is a big part of people’s lives and it’s now one hundred years old. The man behind the invention is Belgian chemist Leo ‘the Doc’ Baekeland.
The Doc teamed up with famous designers like Raymond Loewy to use plastic in now iconic industrial designs like the
