Sustainable suit
AMSTERDAM - The typical life of a garment, before it ever ends up on a hanger, is often quite exotic. It may have been designed in the Netherlands from fabrics that were developed in Pakistan or Australia and then sewn together in Europe. To environmentally conscious consumers, the itinerary of their clothes has become as important a consideration as the nature of the materials used to make them. That’s why Dutch company, Dutch Spirit, has designed the Ambassador - a brand new line of suits that is entirely sustainable.

Plastic soup inspires Dutch artist
AMSTERDAM – A plastic island the size of France, Spain and Portugal together floats in the Pacific Ocean. It’s the biggest dump in the world. Thousands of pieces of plastic end up in the stomachs of the ocean’s wildlife and it’s poisoning our food chain. It’s going to be a big job to clean it up because it means filtering water for years. Besides that, who’s going to clean it? No one’s applied for the job yet. Luckily there are organic alternatives for plastic such as bags made of corn and more and more people are taking their own bags to the supermarket.

Swedish artist Finsta launches book in Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM - Swedish artist extraordinaire Finsta (a.k.a. Finstafari) is in Amsterdam this week to launch his new book Finsta Graphics. Strawberry Earth caught up with the young artist at the 5-days-off festival in Amsterdam club, Paradiso. We wanted to find out if he’s ever inspired by the environment and the answer is, yes. Finsta collaborated with Leolyxxx in Gdansk, Poland, in May 2009 to create “Spider Ride”.

Fashion Queen and Environmentalist
LONDON - British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood cares about our environment. She made a passionate speech on the hit UK television talk show ‘Tonight with Jonathan Ross‘. Vivienne Westwood was inspired to speak out because of her meeting with independent scientist James Lovelock. At almost 90 years old James Lovelock is one of the most respected voices raising awareness of the effects of climate change.
