Gotta love Charlie + Mary!
AMSTERDAM - Sometimes you just want to cheer very loud when you see something you’ve been waiting so long for. Charlie + Mary just made me do that! They are the coolest shop in town (Amsterdam) with some very desirable fashion and things that make you feel greedy - and it’s all eco friendly! The owners, Charlotte and Marieke, know exactly where to find the latest cool stuff that’s also eco and fair.
Working in the fashion industry they discovered that most brands find speed and fast profit far more important than quality and respect for employees and the environment. They dreamed about doing it totally different and decided to go treasure hunting for the best brands and desingers that deliver quality with a good conscience.
The two fashion lovers stock their own collection of Charlie + Mary clothes, a line of cute i-phone cases, scarfs and baby shoes made entirely by one of their grandmothers, “Handmade by Oma”, plus brands we’ve featured on Strawberry Earth before like Studio Jux and Monkee Genes.
The girls don’t think of sustainability as a trend, but as something that should be normal. Their eye for authenticity and detail can even be seen in the shop’s interior. Customer benches are made from recycled wood, they use old fruit baskets as shelves, the counter is made using old doors and the big table is made out of an old trainwagon. You can combine shopping with a drink, a lunch and even with a bit of work on your laptop in Charlie + Mary.
