Clean water for all no longer a pipe dream

Clean water for all no longer a pipe dream
AMSTERDAM – JointhePipe.org has a vision: to bring clean drinking water to everyone around the world who needs its. Sound familiar? Maybe; but these guys are going about it differently.
JointhePipe.org is the first social community of tap water drinkers, and the idea behind it is so simple we’re amazed no one thought of it sooner.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution
Jamie Oliver transforming America’s diet
NEW YORK - Jamie Oliver successfully campaigned for healthier school meals in the United Kingdom. Now he’s in the US to try and do the same. The challenge is bigger than anything else he’s faced before. The show is called “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution“. His first stop is the US city of Huntington in West Virginia - a place with the unenvious title of unhealthiest city in the US (and that’s saying something…!).

Recycle your travel guide
Recycle your travel guide
AMSTERDAM – If you enjoy travelling, you may find that after a few trips your bookshelves are groaning under the weight of guidebooks you probably won’t use again. Luckily, GuideGecko has come up with a solution.
Online travel bookshop GuideGecko’s new initiative allows travellers to sell their used guidebooks on its website. Guides can be listed for free and once sold, GuideGecko gives the seller 85% of the money earned. It’s a great recycling idea that could also generate extra cash towards your next trip.

Wholefoods heaven!
Wholefoods heaven!
WASHINGTON DC - The first thing I did when we arrived in Washington DC to visit the DC Environmental Film Festival was look up the nearest Wholefoods supermarket. Wholefoods is a true food paradise and the owners care about our planet. You’ll find the highest quality, least processed, organic food there. Before you know it you’ll have spent hours browsing aisles full of temptingly lush cakes, cheeses, salads, fresh bread, coffee, etcetera….

Retail therapy, multiplied
AMSTERDAM – A shirt retailer that doubles as a coffee shop; a hair salon that sells boutique tea; a creative agency that’s also a wine bar. In this fast-paced world where there never seem to be enough hours in the day, no time-saving combination is too crazy. A new shop has now taken multitasking to the next level by offering furniture, fashion and food under one roof.

Strawberry Earth at Washington DC Environmental Film Festival

Strawberry Earth at Washington DC Environmental Film Festival
AMSTERDAM - 16 March 2010 is the opening of the biggest environmental film festival in the world: the Evironmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (that’s Washington D.C. to the rest of the world…). They’re screening over 150 films and documentaries over 12 days and Strawberry Earth will be there to pick the best ones and bring them to the Netherlands. A sneak tip for a film we’ve got our eyes on: Climate Refugees by Michael Nash. You can follow our progress from start to finish in Washington DC by following us on Twitter.
