Sir Dave, saviour of the universe

“Sir Dave, Gentle Voice
Calmly Explaining the Fact
That we’re all doomed”

There, that’s my David Attenborough haiku. I’m sorry to put you through it.

You see, I saw the great man speak last night at the Brighton Festival. Frankly, I would happily listen to him read the instructions to a flat-pack wardrobe.

Charles

We have a cleaner. His name is Charles. Charles is a man of few words. When he picks up the phone all he mumbles is: “Charles”.  At first I can never figure out who’s calling me. “Who’s there?” I say. He responds with more mumbling, until eventually he screams his name out of pure frustration:

Four footed fashion victims

Winter is in full swing here in the Big Apple and when it comes to fashion, form follows function.  Stylish New Yorkers have turned to sweaters, vests and boots to keep warm while looking hot. And I’m just talking about dogs here. Sustainable pet couture fashion is all the rage for New York’s pet owning elite.

Strawberry Earth at Glastonbury

Sit still for too long at Glastonbury and someone will eventually try to either paint your face, sell you “cakes”, or have sex with your leg.

It therefore came as no surprise when a friendly Oxfam volunteer approached me with a pot of blue dye and proceeded to daub it on my forehead. A bit forward, yes – but at least my leg remained unsexed.

Strawberry Earth at Glastonbury Festival: Day 2!

GLASTONBURY - Glastonbury is the festival who cried wolf. Every year a rumour spreads around the camp that either The Queen, Elton John or Michael Jackson has died. “Yeah, right,” I thought as the fifth person told me the King of Pop was gone. “Like I’m gullible enough to believe that nonsense.” Still, I’m guessing “the Queen has got swine flu” rumour is just guff…right?

Strawberry Earth at Glastonbury Festival!

GLASTONBURY - Nothing quite gets your chakras throbbing like a laughter therapy session in the rain. And yes, surprise surprise, here at Glastonbury, it’s raining.

Of course, we fully expected a downpour - ever since chatting to Morris, a 75-year-old local farmer we found wandering the site last night. When a farmer fixes you right in the eye and whispers ominously of “powerful drizzles”, you listen. And clearly, “powerful drizzles” is a euphemism for “effing lashing it down”.

The first Dutch Environmental Film Festival is a success!

AMSTERDAM - The first Dutch Environmental Film Festival: Strawberry Earth at the movies is at an end. It all began with an official opening by the Dutch Minister of Environment, Jacqueline Cramer, and Amsterdam local environmental councillor, Marijke Vos. What followed was a series of inspirational and thought provoking films, appearances and discussions with film directors and great DJs for two fantastic after parties. The practical goal of the film festival was to raise money to make The Ketelhuis cinema eco friendlier and it looks as though in just two days we’ve managed to raise nearly €10,000!
